The PTE Academic is divided into three core sections. The tasks are integrated-meaning some questions may assess more than one skill (e.g., listening and writing).

Questions: Approx. 20
Task: Read 2 academic passages and respond to 10 questions per passage.
This section assesses your ability to understand and analyze university-level written texts.
Listening

Questions: Approx. 28
Task: Listen to 3 lectures (3-5 minutes each, with 6 questions each) and 2 conversations (3 minutes each, with 5 questions each).
This section evaluates your ability to understand conversations and academic lectures, including tone, purpose, and key ideas.

1. Independent Task - Express an opinion on a familiar topic.
2-4. Integrated Tasks - Combine listening, reading, and speaking to respond.
This section tests your ability to speak clearly and coherently in an academic setting.

Tasks: 2
1. Integrated Writing Task (20 minutes) - Read a short passage, listen to a related lecture, and write a response.
2. Academic Discussion Task (10 minutes) - Participate in an online classroom discussion by typing your opinion.
It evaluates your ability to present ideas in written English and support them with appropriate reasoning and evidence.

Score Validity: 2 years
Retake Policy: You can retake the TOEFL iBT after a 3-day gap (but typically only once per calendar week is allowed in most countries)
